The single most powerful action you can take to build the
business you want is to make best use of your time.
Right now your time might be completely taken up doing all
the day-to-day technical work that must be done in any business. Customers need
to be looked after, new customers need to be found, the money from sales has to
reach the bank account, staff need to be managed and so on. No arguments - if
this work does not get done your business will come to a quick halt. This work
we call working IN your business.
However, there is another type of work that needs to be done
too. This is the work that will enable you to change your business from where
it is now to where you would like it to be (Your Strategic
Objective). This work we call working ON your business.
Now it does not matter whether you agree with The E-Myth
Point of View when it comes to how to build a successful business, one point is
clear. If you do not spend time working ON your business, it will probably
struggle from now until the day you close down, and when it comes time to
retire your business may not be worth anything to sell. At the very least you
are not likely to receive the personal rewards you would like (see article
Why Do You Run A Business?)
If you are like most small business owners you currently
spend most of your time working IN your business, and very little time if any
working ON your business. So the first step you need to take is to find half an
hour a day (more if possible) to start working ON the business.
That might not sound a great idea if you already work a 14
hour day, but what is the alternative? The alternative is that your business
will never change from how it is now, that you will never escape from the
tyranny of your daily routine. So somehow you need to find - or make - that
half hour.
So what do you do in the half hour? You work towards your
Strategic Objective. You are shown exactly how to do that - step by step - in
The E-Myth Mastery Program. What if you don't want to do the
Program? In our view you will still reap great rewards from your decision and
your determination to spend at least half an hour a day working ON your
business. |
