Why do you run a business? Most people need to earn money,
but most people earn money by working for someone else.
Any job can be stressful, but some stresses fall heavily on
the shoulders of many business owners: the risk of the business going broke,
lack of personal financial reward, the hassle of employing people, the lack of
time off to spend with the family, not achieving your business dreams and so
on.
Running a business is a life choice - even if business
owners sometimes feel trapped in their business. Why then do you choose to run
a business? What do you want out of it? How will your business give you a
better life? These are the first and most important questions to answer if you
want to improve your business.
To answer these questions you need to take a further step
back and ask this: "What do I want from my life?" You can look at this from two
perspectives - your inner sense of personal fulfilment and your everyday
personal rewards.
Your inner sense of personal fulfilment is what The E-Myth
calls 'Your Primary Aim'. Forget your business for the moment. What type of
life experience is it that gives you the strongest inner feelings of
fulfilment? What do you want your life to feel like? Who do you want to be? How
do you want to be remembered?
Why is your Primary Aim so important? The
point is that once you know what is most important to you, you have a much
better basis for making important decisions in your personal and business life
- decisions that give you the best chance of living your Primary Aim. On the
other hand, if you don't look at what is really important to you how can you
make choices? For example, is running a business likely to give you what you
want from your life?
Deciding what everyday personal rewards you want is also
important. How much money do you want to earn, how much time do you want away
from the business, what do you want to do with your time and so on? Having
these goals will again help you create the life that you want.
Identifying what you want from your life will help you
decide whether you want to be in business, and what you want your business to
bring you. Getting your business to deliver the fulfilment and rewards you want
is the aim of The E-Myth Mastery Programme. |
